As our initial featured florist, we are excited to work with The Enchanted Florist of historic, Old Town Alexandria who began more than two decades ago as a small floral studio. This business was built on a passion for exquisite flowers, The Enchanted Florist has grown into a cutting-edge studio where they thrive on redefining the art of floral design. Their inspiration comes from nature and their designs reflect and celebrate the beauty that surrounds.

With varied backgrounds in horticulture, fashion and jewelry design, and landscape and interior design – their team shares an innate desire to create beauty that is artfully crafted using unexpected elements of nature. Experienced in many areas, their style cannot be classified under any one category – versatility is The Enchanted Florist’s biggest asset.
During our opportunity to collaborate with the owner of The Enchanted Florist, Phyllis, we learned much about herself and her passion for flowers…
PFW: What drives and motivates you?
Phyllis: The ever-changing scope of the business, new varieties to ooh and ahh over daily, new ways of doing things, new vessels, and new people to share techniques with — essentially the fact that we are always growing in this industry. Every day is a new chance to learn and an opportunity to thrill someone with the beauty of flowers.
PFW: What is your favorite floral holiday and why?
Phyllis: We just LOVE Valentine’s Day! After getting through the month of December, which seems to go endlessly, Valentine’s Day is such a fun — a week of work and a few days of fun designing romantic arrangements. Along with good-natured teasing that goes on with the last-minute men of the world! Serving Bourbon the last few years has made that teasing more fun for them.
PFW: If you were not a floral designer, who would you like to be?
Phyllis: Nature photography always comes to mind. Like our tag long — “Natured Inspired Design” — we at The Enchanted Florist are all very influenced by nature. The colors, textures, nuance — all give us inspiration for our designs. Spending even more time outdoors with camera equipment would be a thrill. All of us enjoy landscaping and plants too, any day we get to dig a hole in our local garden is a good day!
PFW: Do you have any pets?
Phyllis: We have Cooper! The wonder dog! He is our shop dog for almost four years. He was a rescue and has developed into the most wonderful shop dog, greeting customers every day, and drawing many people into the shop.
PFW: How do you relax?
Phyllis: I am a florist, I drink wine, of course! To relax I work in my garden and dream of the next seasons to plants things.
PFW: What event that you worked on are you the most proud of the result?
Phyllis: How could I ever narrow it down to just one?!? In some respects, it is always the most recent one we just did.
PFW: What is your favorite flower?
Phyllis: Lily of the Valley, by a mile!
PFW: Anything else you’d like people to know about you?
Phyllis: The creative process is very important to us, and we strongly believe service to be our finest product. We are delighted to hand craft the perfect design for your special occasion, wedding, or event – and see each new interaction as the start of a lasting relationship. Celebrating life’s moments grand or small through flowers keeps us connected to our community that we love.
As you can see, this first foray into featuring our prestigious florists was a huge success! We are so thankful to Phyllis and her design team at The Enchanted Florist for lending their talents to showcase our Flower Super Deals for the month of January.
