Our 2014 Potomac Flower Show and Design Competition was the biggest and best one yet! We appreciate everyone who came out and supported us. Our staff looks forward to this every year – and we hear that you do, too!
This month marks our 16th Anniversary and we were so delighted to celebrate with a day of great flowers, food, and fun. It was wonderful to see our house filled with so many familiar faces, and to make new friends as well.
Thanks to the talented Bossa Brothers for providing musical entertainment and Milloff's Catering for the delicious food.
One of the most special highlights of our show is the vendor display. There were beautiful booths filled with gorgeous flowers and live plants, and the newest trends in supplies. Many of our vendors and suppliers traveled from around the world to join us from places like Ecuador, Colombia, South Africa, and Holland. We were honored to have them here with us, sharing their vast knowledge with our guests.
This year's Design Competition was amazing! The special theme was to create an arrangement that would celebrate the 2014 World Cup. Sixteen local designers used their tremendous creativity and skills to deliver stunning, original centerpieces. Each design was a unique marvel, showcasing one of the countries participating in the World Cup. A six person panel of judges had the difficult task of choosing the winners. In the end, Christine Chung of H Bloom took the highly coveted First Place prize, representing Russia. The Second Place Winner is Teresa Godfrey of Floral Innovations, representing Costa Rica. The Third Place Prize went to Deb McDonald of Just Imagine events, representing Japan. Finally, you voted and chose our People's Choice Winner: Michelle Galindo of Palace Florists, representing Italy. Congratulations to all of our winners!
Our extreme gratitude goes to Kris Kratt and Bill Schaffer for their entertaining, inspiring presentation. It was such a treat to have their tremendous talent here for the day. This dynamic duo really brought a spectacular experience to our guests, showing different styles and new ideas.. with a few laughs as well. They shared a wealth of knowledge and ideas that will motivate us all year long. This could not have happened without the support of special assistants Anahit Hakobyan and Ellen Seagraves.
We are so pleased to continue our tradition of educating and training the floral community. The success of the show is possible thanks to our loyal customers, vendors, suppliers, growers, volunteers, and employees.
