2016 Potomac Flower Show

Our long anticipated event surpassed our expectations, from the live music by the Potomac Jazz Project, and our delicious food, by Milloff's Catering. We enjoyed a spectacular spring-like day day surrounded by plants having brilliant foliage and stunning blooms that brightened everyone's senses. From the presentations to the conversations of friends and newly-made friends, the fascinating ideas flowed to "thinking outside the box"!

Truly those who attended the show were mesmerized by the vendor exhibits showcasing the newest products, anticipating their use in our endeavors. Without a doubt, we are thankful for our amazing vendors, arriving from different areas of the world, bringing incredible products, enlightening us with their wisdom.

The Annual Design Competition is always a hit. This year's English Tea Party theme challenged 15 local designers to show off their creative talents and growing capabilities. Each design was impressive. A six person panel of judges carefully chose the winners.
The 3rd Place award went to Michelle Galindo from Palace Florist. The 2nd Place was awarded to Mary Love from Love Is In The Air Events. Sarah Beth King from Mimoza Designs won both the 1st Place and the People's Choice Award this year!

A riveting and inspiring presentation, "European Design Trends" by our dynamic guest Neil Whittaker, sharing his phenomenal expertise as one of UK's and Europe's top designers, created an excitement buzzing throughout the building. His presentation was an inspiration to encourage us to use these new trends. We are so lucky to have a team of assistants willing to volunteer their time to give us a hand on show day: Carol Inskeep, AIFD, Ellen Seagraves, and Anahit Hakobyan.

Because of your support, we are driving measurable, lasting impact in the floral community in a manner true to our educational mission. We are so happy to carry on this special tradition year after year. The success of the show is possible thanks to the collaborative effort of our loyal customers, vendors, suppliers, growers, volunteers, and dedicated employees. As a local business, one of the most rewarding things we can do is to share the happiness that flowers bring into our community. This week, we donated some of the gorgeous creations from the Flower Show to four organizations who provide care for those in need.

We started at Howard University Hospital in northwest Washington, DC. HUH has served the DC population for over 150 years, being founded in 1862. The nurses reported that patients enjoyed the flowers during their visit to HUH.

This was our third year going to Children’s National Medical Center, ranked one of the top 10 pediatric hospitals in the nation. The volunteer team was happy to greet us! They distributed the flowers to key locations like welcome desks for families, where they could brighten someone’s day.

Next we visited Brooke Grove Retirement Village, a 60 year old facility in Sandy Spring, MD that is dedicated to quality of life for seniors. The staff was very eager to share some flowers with their elderly residents. The cymbidiums were their favorite!

After that we ended our journey with a trip to the National Red Cross at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. We were so honored to visit this hospital that cares for those who serve in our military.

A HUGE thank you to Potomac Floral Wholesale, who donated more than 30 floral arrangements for patients and families. Flower donations are BY FAR the most popular donations. We have already provided all of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit patients and the Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse Stations with flowers and they were VERY thankful!
